Q: What are the benefits of massage?

A: Massage therapy is designed to stretch and loosen muscles, improve blood flow and the movement of lymph throughout the body, facilitate the removal of metabolic wastes resulting from exercise or inactivity, and increase the flow of oxygen and nutrients to cells and tissue. Massage stimulates the release of endorphins (the body’s natural painkiller) in the brain and nervous system. Massage also provides a relaxed state of alertness and reduces mental stress.

Q: What is reflexology?

A: Reflexology is the practice of stimulating areas of the feet that correspond to parts of the body with specific hand, thumb and finger techniques. This stimulation is believed to have a positive effect on a person’s health and well-being. It is not massage. It is very relaxing. While foot reflexology will help enhance over-all health and well-being, reflexology is not a substitute for medical care.
